The Farthing West model of
organisational change makes use of five levels of outcome-focused
intervention to solve complex problems:
1. Strategic
Re-Visioning – Setting the direction
Using data from sources such as the market,
industry, emergent technology, demographics and performance, and
linking this to the organization’s Mission and Vision, we assist our
clients in deciding their future based on the evidence. Where the
intuition of experience emerges, we assist in finding and analysing
the data that will support or refute that intuition and thereby
remove whimsy or emotion from the debate.
The outcome for the client is a robust strategy
based on real evidence and a solid plan for implementation.
2. Strategic
Alignment – ensuring all parties are going the same way
This level of intervention is about ensuring that
all parts of the organization share the Vision, understand the
Strategy and develop effective plans and programs to achieve the
goals. We work with cross-functional groups to set specific targets,
dimension the problems to be overcome and opportunities to be
realized, and develop implementation plans to achieve these desired
results. This process also identifies implications for
organizational Structure, Roles and Performance Measures.
By working with cross-functional teams, we ensure
that the value flow for the organization is preserved, that
roadblocks are eliminated and all areas focus on the main purpose.
An important derivative of Strategic Alignment is
what we call Lifetime Customer Value Management. This is more than a
system for better account management; it is a strategic review,
realignment and on-going relationship management process that
increases profitability and customer loyalty.
3. Collaborative
Partnership Development – ensuring suppliers and customers are also
aligned and mutual benefits are identified and realised
Today, no organization can optimally perform in
isolation. Strategic and collaborative partnerships are how we get
things done. It is the quality of these partnerships that will
determine our own outcomes as much as the quality of our internal
efforts. Farthing West has developed a process to allow strategic
partners to work more effectively with their client and with each
other on behalf of their client.
The value flow for the whole supply chain is
analyzed and aligned with the goals of the client to ensure maximum
service delivery, minimum waste and optimum asset utilisation.
Valuable outcomes of this intervention include
mutually beneficial cost savings, improved client relationships and
productivity improvement.
4. Cross
Functional Performance Improvement.
At this level, we focus on improvements across the
organization, identifying the value flow through the various
departments, work units and inter-related areas. Blockages and areas
of poor performance are identified, again using evidence and
involving the people who work within these areas. New ideas are
generated and examined to reduce waste, enhance value adding and
develop sustainable solutions that are readily adopted.
5.
Functional Performance Improvement – Increasing overall performance
At this level, we focus on improvements across the
organization, identifying the value flow through the various
departments and inter-related areas. The team members are engaged in
developing, analysing and interpreting the data to provide the
evidence upon which the decisions can be made. Blockages and areas
of poor performance are targeted. New ideas are generated and
examined to develop sustainable solutions that are readily adopted.
Specific performance targets are readily
identified, monitoring metrics are clear and the speed with which the
change is made is beyond expectation.
